|“As each one has received a special gift, employ it in serving one another as good stewards of the manifold grace of God” (1 Peter 4:10).|
Christians receive a spiritual gift from God through the Holy Spirit. It is in the form of a talent, a skill, or a character trait. The Bible lists about two dozen of these. They are to be used for the benefit of other Christians. In doing so, the Christian is admonished to be a good steward in the use of them. Christians using the various gifts received are thereby distributing the grace of God.
Examples of spiritual gifts include hospitality, service, teaching, exhorting, giving, leading, giving mercy, showing love, and more. As you have received a spiritual gift, you are to use it to the proportion of your faith.
Are you uncertain what your spiritual gift(s) are? Would you like to use your gift but not quite sure how to do it? Do you find yourself in an arena that won’t allow or encourage you to use your gift?
The local church is the place to find the answers to these questions. Your gift should be used within the context of a Christian fellowship and with others who are employing their gifts.
This is the context of a true body of Christ.
Mark S. Disbrow is pastor of Amazing Grace Community Church in Aspen Springs.
